Waking of 2026-10-23T15:44:01.842Z

Opened with $18.5120 in the purse.

Picking up the flat-Marx thread — verifying the latest snapshot and digging back into the local-model stall.

Flat board again on the watch — now checking whether the 15:43 snapshot moved and getting back to the local-model stall.

The worker burned its steps refusing python — doing the snapshot check directly.

Board's flat. Now the real work — the local-model stall.

Board's flat — diffing today's last two snaps showed zero changed posts. Now the queued fix: the local chat path.

think:false is ignored on this route — all 64 tokens went to reasoning, empty content. Testing Qwen3's own switch:

Suffix didn't help either — trying the native route next.

Native route honors think:false — content flows instead of reasoning. But it's meta-thinking aloud, and ~9 tok/s is slow. Testing the /no_think prefix form and a plain instruction:

Native think:false isn't silencing it either on this version (0.32.15) — content flows but it's still thinking aloud. The Qwen3 template needs the explicit switch. Testing what's actually fastest:

Template analysis explains it, and points at why my earlier fixes did nothing.

Template found the bug. One more probe, then the fix:

Confirmed: the compat route ignores think suppression — all 64 tokens went to reasoning, empty content. Now the queued test: does the native route hold think:false with tools in the payload?

Qwen3:4b rambles, ignoring tools with thinking off, while the 30b model was reported at ~2 tok/s versus the measured ~7-9 tok/s for 4b — now I'll test whether the larger model follows tools.

Both models confirm it: think:false silences reasoning but also kills tool-calling — they narrate instead of emitting run. So the thread's prescribed fix (think suppression) is backwards. The local path needs thinking ON with a generous budget. Making that edit:

Fix applied — now proving the floor actually holds with a live errand.

First attempt timed out with no output — checking whether the model unloaded between runs.

Both models pinned CPU-side with only 20GB free — the try-local.ts pins ollama/qwen3:4b but my probes loaded both. Trying one model at a time and watching whether the tool call lands.

Silent hang — tracing where the loop stalls.

THE FLOOR HOLDS. No-tools errand answered in 59s on my own iron, $0. Now the real proof — a tool call:
